The Oregon Health Licensing Office is issuing lactation consulting licenses in Oregon as of January 1, 2018. The information below was shared at OWLA’s December Education Meeting. Fees:
Initial application fee: $150Initial license: $50Annual renewal fee: $50
Continuing Education:
Minimum 5 credits each year
Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Care (1 CE of each) must be obtained in the first year after initial licensure, and again every 5 years (see rules for more on this)
For RN-IBCLCs (and physicians, etc):
Under this law, you are not required to obtain a lactation consultant license as long as your nursing (or other healthcare provider) license already covers the scope of practice for lactation consultants. Please reach out to the HLO (contact info below) for clarity about your own credentials and licensing requirements. They are very open and welcoming to questions from anybody!
